The frigid Wisconsin winter (and Packer's NFC championship loss) gave me the winter blues. To escape, my husband and I took a trip to Kohler Spa in Kohler, WI. I had heard of Kohler Spa through a few friends; as well as various features found in online blogs and articles. I came across this article on Forbes Travel Guide.
We opted to stay at The American Club's sister location, Inn on Woodlake. A friend once passed the comment that The American Club hallways looked like they could be haunted; And I have a fear of ghosts. Irrational, I know. However, we preferred the Inn on Woodlake for more reasons then lack of ghosts. We also saved on the pocketbook when staying at the newer location. Our room was the tower room overlooking the frozen Lake. The room was contemporary, spacious, and featured one of Kohler's famed showers. The Inn is less than a few blocks from The American Club and Kohler Spa and there is a fabulous shuttle option that will take you around town. I learned that The American Club was built in 1918 to house the immigrant workers that came to work for the now famed Kohler Company. Not only do the beautiful corridors never end, there are enchanting gardens scattered throughout the grounds. The decor will transport you back to a time of leather furniture and stained glass windows. My favorite part of this building was The Greenhouse - where they have created a charming cafe and ice cream parlor. Dinner at The Immigrant Room was fabulous! The atmosphere and service were impeccable. Guests are led through six themed rooms to represent the various locations that the Kohler company's immigrant workers came from. We tried the 5-course tasting menu hoping to get a good sample of what the restaurant had to offer. The food has most certainly earned the restaurant their title as a AAA Four Diamond Award winner. The restaurant left a lasting impression, which I'm certain will be hard to top. We also pleasantly surprised with the delicious food at the casual dining establishment The Horse and Plow. The Kohler Spa itself was gorgeous. It transports you out to a different realm where everyone lives in spa robes. We indulged in massages and pedicures. My favorite service was the pedicure which included the use of hot stones between your toes!!! The best part of the Spa, after the customer service, are the amenities! There are various pools and lounges for guests to experience while waiting for services, as well as a cafe serving fresh foods and juices. Overall, the Kohler experience was a memorable one. If you're the Midwest and looking for a 5 star experience, I would highly recommend checking out The American Club Resort and Kohler Spa.
